Maledictus 1.19

Everyone’s bisexual and hitting on Goren.

Eames’ obsession with wanting robbery as the motive begins. Bobby knows Russian, plays with bikini bottoms. Some redhead flirts with and fondles B’s coat collar. B steals the sheriff’s watch. How the hell does Goren know so much about Rolodex watches? A transvestite tries to make-out with Goren. Goren flicks his wrists a lot.

Quotable:[B’s nose is in a box that holds a disembodied head]
E: Lose a contact lens?

[B pulls a necklace out of the head’s mouth]
G: What do you think this means?
E: Robbery wasn’t the motive?

G: She still wrote in Russian.
E: If you tell me you can read Russian – [he looks at her blankly] oh, brother.

[after a spiel by know-it-all Goren]
E: I learn something new everyday.

Deakins: Did you tell Kenneth Strick he plucks his eyebrows!?
G: Yes. Well, he does doesn’t he!?

Yesterday 1.18

The boys are stumped and Eames uses her good fashion sense to break Deakins’ old case -- Goren can’t believe he’s partnered with such a fashionista and sees her in a whole new light. B kicks a door in, teaches a guy to lie, and Alex knows her faux fur.

A chess guy and Goren move each other around rooms. Deakins knows the right judge. Goren and the killer continue to have a disagreement with the seating arrangement.

Clothes Call: sunglasses, black London Limited miniskirt circa 1983, Goren looses the tie in interrogation

Quotable:
E: It’s not more than twenty years. That’s a black denim miniskirt from the London Limited. They only made them one season – 1983.
G: You wore one of these?
E: I looked good in it too.

Seizure 1.17

Eames caresses Carver’s arm and Carver and Goren are twinsies. BA hit all the burger joints in town. B cutely considers A on the playground after questioning a lesbian schoolteacher.

B wakes up Johnny with a chair slam and slices his hand open in interrogation. Eames gives him her hanky and he makes an “opps” face.

BA read steamy fan letters and Alex needs a cigarette and eight hours sleep. Goren slams his notebook down and breaks a goth girl out of her reverie. Goren chuckles at Alex and her ABBA fanclub card.

Goren has a family history of schizophrenia. B grabs A’s forearm to stop her. BA read domination porno for intellectuals.

Carver contemplates what tie he’ll wear to an execution. B does his own thing and A sighs. Love is a many splendored thing.

Clothes Call: Eames’ handkerchief Bobby wears around his hand, B’s hot sunglasses

Quotable:
G: [shaking his finger at Eames] What did I tell you about “the negligent dad”?
E: I don’t know. I forgot to write it down.

Phantom 1.16

It’s a sarcasm party and everyone’s invited!

Bobby cooks Bouillabisse, Alex isn’t impressed (but a dead woman’s neighbor is).

BA are on their A-game and banter all the way through. Bobby’s all sarcastic, to Eames’ delight. Bobby makes a phone call while Alex and Deakins look on amusedly. Alex gives Bobby credit for his teeth observation and they both play with “Cookie” Caspari.

We find out Alex comes from a family of cops.

Carver blatantly flirts with a UN lady right in front of BA, who shoot each other an uncomfortable look. Eames gets her and Bobby coffee. Goren uses his height to fix some chimes. Bobby says “snow” in a fun way. Heightened intensity for all and Goren drives off by himself.

Chalk up another successful hostage situation for Goren (see episode 14). Goren messes up in the hostage situation but quickly corrects himself. Goren almost gets his face blown off and is shaken accordingly.

Quotable:
Valdez: I thought since Major Case Squad handled it back then you’d do me a favor and catch this one too.
G: That’s what I live for, Valdez, to make your life easier.
Valdez: I take it you’ll be by later to wash my car?

E: The only money I ever got from my family was the fifty bucks my dad gave me for my prom dress.
G: Was that the same year you were selling apples in front of city hall?
E: It was matchsticks, and it was snowing.

E: You ready?
G: Yeah, let’s play.
E: [sing-songy] Here she comes.

E: We’re not putting you down, Cookie.

G: Oh stop! You really lay it on thick there, Cookie.

E: [Brooklyn accent] She shoulda remembered.

E: [to G] My witnesses did better than yours.

G: Nothing but the footprints in the snow.

Semi-Professional 1.15

Bobby plays with a trash can at the murder scene; Carver’s amazed at seeing the eccentric detective in action. B always walks his lady friends to the door. Goren cracks a smile about tuna salad on rye. BA likes late bloomers.

BA have some laughs with Jimmy Deakins and his friend at a steakhouse. Goren has his hand on the back of Alex’s chair before they get down to business. Everybody drinks.

Goren arrests a guy with one hand and plays Chinese chess with the other: Your move. He learned in China.

BA are very together. Goren leans on his hand in a restaurant and looks cute while Alex reads to him: You underline the dirty parts?
Goren and Carver fight like little boys on the playground. Eames raises her hand and slickly resolves the situation. Goren and Carver kiss and make up while Alex puts on the heat.

Clothes Call: the judge’s fun suspenders

Quotable:
[to Eames as he watches Goren play with a trash can by himself]
Carver: Is his investigative style always this sociable?

E: Emily Trudeau’s greatest hits?
G: [nods] “Free Speech and the Fair Use Doctrines: The First Amendment and Encryption Software.”
E: Stop it, you’re making me hot.

E: What do they call that?
G: Ah, Gentleman’s C’s.

E: [to Goren] A history of violence. Sounds like a distinguishing feature of the semi-professional hitman. I only look like I’m not paying attention to you.

Homo Homini Lupis 1.14

BA have nearly twelve kidnappings (not counting hostage situations) between them and they’ve never lost anyone.

Bobby talks Bonanza and fiddles with a car engine on the street. Alex shoots a guy twice and kills him on the court steps. Bobby has a chase and a suspenseful moment in a coffee shop listening for the Bonanza ringtone. B’s tough with a girl with Stockholm Syndrome and a tiger tat comes into play.

Clothes Call: Alex’s adorable Alice in Wonderland headband and chic black scarf, Bobby’s layered plaid button down.

Quotable:G: Bosnia?
E: And a bunch of other places with no vowels.

The Insider 1.13

Goren doesn’t know much about an “It Girl” but really looks forward to meeting her. B gives a guy with an arm sling a reassuring pat on the shoulder.

BA go up against the FBI. The undercover FBI guy reveals a boatload of BA history while our dynamic duo plays coy. Goren and the FBI guy drink out of adorable Major Case Squad coffee cups – B gets them tested for cooties. Goren had pastrami and antacid for lunch.

Agent Hampton gives Goren the “heeby jeevies” and makes him cuss a lot. Eames wants a foot massage from Derek Jeter. Bobby uses his low, dangerous voice. The agent calls Goren “a frustrated, second-rate city cop” but our guy gets his man in the end.

Clothes Call: the bow tie on the judge

Quotable:
[Eames describes the spoiled little “It Girl”]
G: She sounds like a lot of fun.

Deakins: [after Goren makes a prediction] The magic gut speaks.

FBI guy: You ever try [undercover]?
G: I wouldn’t be any good at it. It’s just not in my nature.
FBI guy: Those four years in Narcotics, what was that? You ran three undercover operations, twenty-seven arrests, twenty-seven convictions.
G: You read my file.
FBI guy: Wouldn’t you? And Eames, you transferred to Major Case after three years in Vice. Winter nights trolling the Point in a fur coat and a halter top looking for Johns. It’s tough duty.

Crazy 1.12

After episode after episode of ineptitude, the local police are finally helpful. Goren eats Combos at a table and says “Special Victims Unit.” B gives A credit for her “gut feeling.” Bobby almost falls out of his chair.

A goes undercover in a car as the mother of an abused daughter. B talks to a little girl and does magic for her by pulling a red crayon from behind her ear (by the by, VDO once made a living doing magic, so that’s actually his sleight of hand you see).

Goren makes fun of a fake nutcase: Nothing to get you out of bed in the morning except work . . . and calls him a geek with his books and tweed. With the exception of the tweed, Bobby might as well be describing himself. (Hey! Pot, meet Kettle! We're pretty sure your apartment is cover in reading material, Goren!)

B moans the names of supermodels and all the men in the room bond over the stupid things they’ve done when in love with a girl.

Quotable:
E: I love everything about this job except that – buddy boy system.

G: Nobody’s reasonable when they’re in love – that’s the whole point of it!

The Third Horseman 1.11

The abortion doctor episode.

Bobby knows his big guns. Ma and Pa Kettle chain themselves to a radiator. Eames calls Goren “Bobby.” Alex gets overwhelmed and angry and B takes over the questioning. Bobby pretends to be chauvinistic pro-lifer and badmouths Eames to bond with a bad guy.

BA get some help from “Zach here” and we find out Eames has seniority. BA have a quiet talk over each of their stances on abortion – both are pro-choice.

Enemy Within 1.10

Goren’s on the 90th floor. The local cops are dunces.

Goren flirts with an ex, a tall brunette he blew his chance with and who has since moved on to “Carlos” – they used to play in the same regular poker game.

Everyone needs things explained twice and works against BA. Deakins doesn’t like his mother-in-law. Goren talks sex with a wife and marvels over a brilliant, perfect crime.

Clothes Call: the tall skinny male nurse’s fun shirt colors

The Good Doctor 1.9

Alex’s sock drawer is disorganized. Goren can’t get a shrink to turn and cough and Eames won’t ever pose nude: You couldn’t pay me enough.

Bobby spills his Coke. Carver plays with knives in court. A phone call interrupts a Goren/Deakins argument. Eames calls dibs on Long Island and makes Goren run around two states. BA argues over the suspect column, Deakins sides with B (shocker). B teaches a doctor what “interrogation” is. Goren rebels on the stand to get a guy up there. Carver is on his A-Game.

Clothes Call: The way Eames wears her scarf

Quotable:
G: [after trying three other scenarios] “She ran away and joined the circus.”

G: That thing your doing with your tongue, what business is that, strictly?

The Pardoner’s Tale 1.8

We travel to Lewis Body Shop in Long Island. Lewis, Bobby’s childhood friend, falls in love with Alex when she teases him with her car knowledge. Apparently Goren’s only been in Major Case a very short time because Lewis still isn’t used to seeing him in a suit. In their youth, Bobby and Lewis got into all sorts of mischief in classic cars. B & A’s vast car knowledge is on display.

Goren’s in a standoff with a guy with a kid and a gun. Goren picks up the kid, our first sign he’s good with kids. The guy tells Goren he should’ve shot him when he had the chance. Goren gets that a lot. Later, in a sweet moment, the kid runs up to Bobby and pokes his badge mischievously and Bobby gives it to him to play with while Eames asks questions.

People in the Fed owe Bobby favors: I can get someone in so deep even I couldn’t find them. Bobby gives his word.

A makes a family connection for Bobby. Goren jumps up and down excitedly behind a computer. BA ignore protocol and charge ahead with a case against the governor.

Bobby states that Major Case Squad is located in One Police Plaza, 11th floor.

Everyone sticks it to Boy Meets World’s dad. BA fights with Carver, Carver bullies BA, and Carver’s full of himself and thinks he should be taught. BA’s not impressed.

Clothes Call: Eames’ oriental collar on her suit jacket. A lawyer’s bow-tie.

Quotable:
G: Eames, I gotta see a buddy about a ’71 Malibu. You want to come?
E: Sure. I love meeting your buddies.

G: [to an unresponsive suspect] Boo! Made ya look.

G: [to an overeager secretary] That’s okay, the search warrant doesn’t actually stipulate highlighting.

Poison 1.7

Cyanide smells like almonds. Deakins tells Bobby to “curb your enthusiasm” and gets a little riled when the headache med he uses might get recalled.

Jerry Orbach and his partner meet BA. Jerry says something sarcastic and Bobby likes him. Jerry and his partner conspire with BA to let a little somethin’ somethin’ leak.

Bobby and Deakins are all pissy with each other the entire episode and Bobby does a presentation to Command Control Center – why the seniority-holding, socially-accepted Eames doesn’t do it, we’ll never know.

We meet Bobby’s tree-hugger friends and BA sign a petition.

Alex tells Bobby he’s adorable.

Quotable:G: What about the great American pastime?
E: Which one? Dieting or cheating on your taxes?
G: Suing.

G: [to Carver] I bet you could indict that clock.

[Deakins gives his theory on the case, then looks to Bobby]
G: What do you want me to say? It’s brilliant.

The Extra Man 1.6

Eames makes a crack about the Three Stooges and Goren laughs as they make fun of a homely dead guy. A gives B a look when they meet the vic’s older lover. BA giggle over Trump’s secretary’s spelling mistakes and B haggles a foot with a limo driver.

Bobby gives Eames his phone out of his pocket and Eames plays the flighty girlfriend. Goren’s on his own for a chunk of the episode playing with The Ledger and knows all sorts of stuff about the French/Swiss/Brazilian guy he plays phone tag with. We find out Goren’s a bettin’ man and Alex owes Bobby $18 but Carver likes 10 to 1 odds. Bobby makes a flourishing arrest at Happy Hour.

Clothes Call: Goren plays with cute hats.

Quotable:
Deakins: That Santini from The Ledger?
Goren: Yeah, don’t worry, I mentioned your name.

G: “take your chestnuts out of the fire”

Jones 1.5

Goren dances with a senorita while Alex waits impatiently on the sidelines. Alex is possessive of their case and chooses Bobby over the Chief of D’s Drug Task Force.

The killer loves scented bathwater and Goren’s olfactory glands have a field day, especially on the body with the strategically placed seaweed.

Goren has a “nuh-uh girlfriend” moment with the killer’s dedicated wife: “Not you. Your money.”

Goren hangs petite Eames out there as bait. Goren throws himself between the two of them and shares his infamous theory on why certain men are attracted to petite women. Goren’s shoe size is 13. The guy from Who’s That Girl breaks the two-way mirror and the episode ends with some lovely frame-age of our two favorite detectives in the wreckage.

Clothes Call: Bobby’s hot sunglasses on the beach

Quotable:
G: Hey, Don Juan. You’re under arrest.

The Faithful 1.4

B gets overzealous at a church crime scene and uses a cop's head to hoist himself up onto the backs of two pews.

Goren knows where to find used cigarettes and checks for Eames before he and a homelss man "smoke 'em if you get 'em."

Goren gets Howard the TB patient to serenade Deakins with "Beautiful Dreamer" and Eames admires how good he is.

Eames gets swung at 'cause "she's too hot to be a cop" and Goren doesn't have anything to share with the class when he leans back and zones out in his chair in Deakin's office.

Quotable:

[E brings them lunch]
G: Thanks
E: Liturgy of the Catholic Church. You thinking of converting? Because I think Father Capanna would love to baptize you.
G: Too late. You're speaking to a lapse alter boy.
E: I should've known. The disregard for authority, the fascination with bad behavior.

Deakins: The Goren Show's back in town!

Smothered 1.3

Eames prays for patience and Bobby watches too much Discovery Channel.

A bartender with an accent calls Eames a "scruffy sort" and Bobby defends a junkie-whore's taste in home decor.

Bobby gets the door for Alex for the first time. BA eat lunch together and take part in the cutest surveilance ever. Bobby does the crossword, Alex sips at her coffee, Eames considers moving, and they scope out furnature for their place. She makes Bobby chuckle. They arrest a junkie for littering.

BA are both onto the same coat-girl. It's revealed that A doesn't have kids and B's mom never liked any of his girlfriends, even if she pretended to, because she wanted him to be happy.

Clothes Call: Eames' smart black trench makes a two-second appearance. They make surveilance look good: Alex's orange coat and jeans and Bobby's leather jacket and jeans. Bobby's hair is all ruffled at the surveilance. B looks good in his black t-shirt in interrogation and his butt looks good in those jeans.

Quotable:

E: What is that?
G: Fish scale.
E: Great, she was attacked by a shark.
G: Sharks don't have scales.
E: [sighs]

E: Not your usual junkie hell-hole.
G: She was makin' an effort.

[Guy walks by. Goren looks to Eames]
E: No, too short. Surveilance is my strong suit.
G: [chuckles] Now that's the nicest lamp we've seen. You ever think what it's like living down there?
E: WIth what one bedrooms are going for, I've considered it. My butt's getting cold.

Art 1.2

Goren doesn't trust opinion polls. Alex is impressed with Bobby's vast art knowledge. Bobby stands up a chair and waves his hand between the victim's dangling feet and the stool. Bobby does his first show of moving stuff around to throw people off.

BA are going to have some trouble decorating their home:
E: Beautiful.
G: Impressionists are too pretty.
E: Right. You probably like those sweaty naked people in the next room.
G: Lucien Freud? As a matter of fact, I do.
E: You can't put that in your home. You can't live with it.
G: Well, I'm not interested in living with it. I'm interested in thinking about it.
[Eames smiles]

Goren gets a star for doing his homework. Goren and a German have a pissing contest for Eames' love: The German calls Eames "a beautiful woman" and enjoys being threatened by her. Goren does an eccentric eye-roll and (Smarty Pants Alert) reads and speaks German to show off.

Goren "can't help himself" and barges into a studio. Alex asks nice.

Clothes Call: Eames wears a skirt while having a walk 'n' talk with Carver.

One 1.1

And so it begins . . .

Our two favorite detectives haven't exactly hit their stride yet. Their partnership is in its first year and they're not exactly on the same page. Goren gives his word to a family that their daughter's killer will be found, and Eames has a problem with it -- they get a little snippy with each other, and not for the last time.

Deakins calls Goren a "right-brained guy" 'cause Goren's trying to round third even though he hasn't touched first or second. Deakins calls Eames "Alex" and is glad she's there to be a base coach.

Goren makes all kinds of assupmtions Eames isn't cool with and he gets a little smart with her: "Okay, if it doesn't bother you."

Alex makes her first sarcastic funny: Ho Ho Ho, BA runs after Masuccis and Randazzos, and Bobby is the only volunteer for a month's worth of security camera tapes. Bobby likes to watch. Alex likes to listen.

Goren's biker buddy with the body art shows up at the precinct: "Buddy of yours?" "I hope so." Turns out the guy got some friends in the Canadian prison system. Handy.

BA argues some more, but now they're at least on the same page more or less. Goren does his famous impression of bend-at-the-waist Gumby in the interogation room and tells a big fat lie about AIDS: I lied. Sorry.

In the end . . . "Men come and go . . ." "but diamonds don't keep you warm at night."

Clothes Call: Bobby's blue vest

Law & Order: Criminal Intent: The Good Bits

It's the one where Goren and Eames . . .

I've been following CI religiously for a while now, and I can't count the number of times I've tried to pinpoint a certain episode where Eames says that one sarcastic thing about paintings or the one where Bobby cuts his hand in the interrogation room . . . . So, I'm creating an abreviated episode guide "The Good Bits" if you will. I'm creating it firstly for myself, but I think a lot of CI fans can get some use out of it. I'll have a smige of plot summery, some good quotes, and a lot of BA. Some of it could be taken as shipping, but I'll try to keep it to a minimum :)
